Minister of Transport: Beba Tower and the automatic zone between Beba and Al-Fashn has entered into service with a length of 18 km, which will increase the safety levels on Beni Sueif-Assiut line.

The Minister of Transport, Lieutenant-General Engineer/ Kamel Al-Wazir, announced the entry of Beba Tower in Beni Sueif Governorate into service after completing the works of its  modernization and development, as part of signaling systems development project on the Beni Sueif-Assiut line, with a length of 250 km, which is currently being implemented by the global Alstom Italy with a new electronic system ( EIS) which achieves the highest safety levels and has a SIL4 (Safety integrity level) certificate, safety level 4, which is the highest safety level in the world.

The minister explained that the project consists of (15 Main Technical Buildings MTB, 24 Secondary Technical Buildings STB and 86 level crossings) and that the implementation rate of the project reached 84%, as the company is carrying out the finishing and installation works for 3 towers in parallel at different stages and Beba Tower in Beni Suef Governorate is the main tower No. 12 entered into service after (Abu Qurqas - Maghagha - Rawda - Bani Mazar - Mallawi - Mattay - Samalut) towers in Menya governorate, (Dairout – Al Quseya- Manfalut) towers in Assiut governorate and Al-Fashn Tower in Beni Suef governorate, pointing out that the Beba Signalling Tower in Beni Sueif governorate and the automatic zone, with a length of 18 km, control 65 light semaphores, 4 automatic level crossings, 12 point machines and 95 track circuits– operating the headway and the contraflow between Beba and Al-Fashn towers, so the current distance in operation becomes 185 km.

Lieutenant-General Engineer/ Kamel Al-Wazir indicated that the modernization of the railway signaling systems on the Beni Sueif/Assiut line aims to replace the current (mechanical) system with a modern electronic one, which increases the safety, command and control factors during the trains running and contributes to reducing  the headway time between trains and increasing the network capacity by increasing the number of trips during one day and achieving the highest levels of safety and security, adding that the modernization of signaling and communication systems includes following-up the traffic of trains running moment by moment and providing the level crossings with bells, lights and automatic gates to reduce accidents and achieve safety for vehicles and with a system that allows the driver to be in contact with the operation monitor from any semaphore in case of emergency or sudden breakdowns.
