Based on the directives of the continuous political leadership of the Egyptian government represented by the Ministry of Transport towards the completion of developing signaling systems on Cairo-Alexandria line project to increase safety and security rates and achieve full control over trains traffic and reduce dependence on the human element to reduce accidents on railways lines, Lieutenant-General, Eng./ Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of , announced the entry of Tanta signaling tower, the automatic zone between Tanta and Birkat El-Sabaa, and the automatic zone between Tanta and Kafr El-Zayat into service within developing signaling systems on Cairo-Alexandria line project with a length of 208 km, which is currently being implemented by Global Spanish Company Thales with a modern electronic system (EIS), which achieves the highest levels of safety and has a certificate of (Safety integrity level) SIL,  fourth level safety rate, (this is the highest safety rate in the world). By the entry of that zone into service, 199 km are in service out of a total of 208 km.
The minister explained that the project consists of (19 main towers, 15 secondary towers and 80 level crossings), and so far 16 main towers, namely (Quesna - Barkat Al-Sabaa - Kafr El-Zayat - Itai Al-Baroud - Damanhour - Abu Hommous - Toukh - Sandanhour - Kafr El-Dawar - Qaha - Qalyoub - Sidi Jaber - Shubra – Al-Tawdeeb - Banha - Tanta), 14 secondary towers and 78 level crossings have entered service, pointing out that Tanta signaling tower controls 101 optical semaphores, 126 point machines, and 8 level crossings.
He added that the modernization of railway signaling systems aims to replace the current (old electrical) system with a modern electronic one, increase the number of trips per day, and achieve the highest levels of safety and security.  He pointed out that the modernization of signaling and communication systems includes monitoring the trains moment by moment; providing the level crossings with bells, lights and automatic gates to reduce accidents and achieve safety for vehicles; and a system that allows the driver to contact the operation controller from any semaphore in cases of emergency or sudden malfunctions.
