The Minister of Transport announces the entry of Al-Osirat and Al-Mansha signal towers into service within the development signaling systems project on the Assiut - Nagaa Hammadi line

The Minister of Transport announces the entry of Al-Osirat signal tower and the automatic zone between Al-Osirat signal tower and Al-Mansha signal tower into service within the development signaling systems project on the Assiut -Nagaa Hammadi line.

According to the political leadership’s directives of the Egyptian government represented by the Ministry of Transport with the necessity of completing the development and modernization railway signaling systems projects to increase safety and security rates and achieve full control over the movement of trains and reduce dependence on the human element to reduce accidents on railways, Lieutenant-General Engineer / Kamel Al-Wazir - Minister of Transport announced that the entry of Al-Osirat signal tower and the automatic zone between Al-Osirat signal tower and Al-Mansha signal tower into service within the development signaling systems project on the Assiut -Nagaa Hammadi line with a length of 180 km and it is currently being implemented by the Spanish global company Thales with a modern electronic system (EIS), which achieves the highest levels of security and has a of SIL4 certificate (Safety Integrity Level - 4) the fourth level safety rate (this is the highest safety rate in the world), as the area was entered with a length of 10 km and 3 level crossings.

The minister explained that the project consists of (17 main towers, 3 secondary towers, and 60 level crossings), so that so far, 7 main signal towers and 1 secondary tower have been entered into service, namely (gazerat Shandawil –Al- Maragha - Tahta - Bel Safoura - (Tama - Mashta). - Al-Mansha - Al-Osairat) with a length of 74 km out of a total of 180 km, and the entry of 27 level crossings out of a total of 60 level crossings, pointing out that Al-Osirat signal tower controls 42 optical semaphores, 17 converting motors, and 62 electric track circuits.

And that the modernization of railway signaling systems aims to replace the current (old electrical and mechanical) system with a modern electronic one, increase the number of trips per day, and achieve the highest levels of safety and security, and that the modernization of signaling and communication systems includes monitoring the trains moment by moment, and providing level crossings with bells, lights and automatic gates to reduce accidents and achieve safety for vehicles, and system allows the driver to contact with the operating controller from any semaphore in cases of emergency or sudden faults.
