Minister of Transport: An agreement with Russian Transmashholding Company to provide technical support, including the supply of spare parts for a period of 12 years, for maintaining new coaches

The Minister of Transport has announced an agreement reached with Russian Transmashholding Company to provide technical support, including the supply of spare parts for a period of 12 years, for 1300 new coaches currently supplied to ENR

Within the framework of the implementation of the political leadership directives of the Egyptian government represented by the Ministry of Transport for the comprehensive development of the railway system, raising safety and security rates and ensuring the efficiency of the daily operation of the rolling stock, Lieutenant-General, Eng. / Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, and in the presence of Eng. / Mostafa Abu El-Makarem, ENR’s Chairman, held an extensive meeting with Mr. Sergio Kurbanov, CEO of Transmashholding Egypt, the representative of the Russian-Hungarian consortium and the supplier of the 1,300 new passenger coaches deal, which is the largest deal in ENR’s history, to agree on the final touches for the provision of the technical support, including the supply of spare parts and training for 12 years for all of the deal’s coaches, which are 1300 coaches.
The agreement between ENR and Transmashholding includes the provision of the technical support by 20 experts from Transmashholding at ENR’s workshops to train Egyptian engineers and workers on all maintenance and overhauls works, including coaches serious overhauls, as well as establishing a modern maintenance workshop company in Abu-Zabal area affiliated to ENR and supplying it with all modern equipment necessary for the maintenance of passenger coaches that the company will supply.
Lieutenant-General, Eng. / Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, confirmed that this agreement aims to ensure the continuous operation of passenger coaches with high efficiency and the continuation of providing a distinguished service for the passengers, pointing out that the Ministry of Transport is signing maintenance contracts for all modern contracts, as part of the Ministry’s implementation of a comprehensive plan based on five axes to develop the railway system, foremost of which is the development and modernization of all workshops to raise safety and security rates and ensure the efficiency of the daily operation of the rolling stock and the punctuality of operation schedules.
It is worth noting that the 1,300 new passenger coaches deal includes 800 air-conditioned coaches (500 A/C third-class, which is a new service provided for the passengers for the first time in ENR’s history, 180 second-class luxury coaches, 90 first-class luxury coaches and 30 A/C buffet coaches), and 500 third-class coaches with dynamic ventilation.
