Minister of Transport: Al-Fashn Tower on Beni Suef/Asyut line enters the service as well as the automatic zone between Al-Fashn and Maghagha with a length of 20 km, bringing the total electrification of signaling on the line to 141 km, maximizing the safety rates on the line and enhancing the control over trains traffic

The Minister of Transport, Lieutenant-General Eng. / Kamel Al-Wazir, announced the entry of Al-Fashn Tower in Beni Suef Governorate into service after the completion of the modernization and development works in it, as part of the project of developing signaling systems on Beni Suef-Asyut railway line with a length of 250 km, which is currently being implemented by global Alstom Company, Italy with a modern electronic system ( EIS), which achieves the highest safety rates and holds a SILL (4) certificate.
The Minister explained that the project consists of (15 main towers, 24 secondary towers, and 86 level crossings), and that the implementation rate of the project has reached 81%, as the company is carrying out finishes and installations works for 5 towers in parallel at different stages. Al-Fashn Tower in Beni Suef is the tenth main tower that has been entered into service after (Abu Qerqas - Maghagha - Al-Rawda - Bani Mazar - Mallawi - Matay - Samallout) towers in Minya Governorate as well as (Dairout - Al-Qusiya) towers in Asyut Governorate, pointing out that Al-Fashn tower in Beni Suef and the automatic zone with a length of 20 km controls 79 light semaphores, 7 automatic level crossings, 13 point machines, and 112 electric tracks - with the operation of headway and reverse running between Al-Fashn and Maghagha towers, so that the current operation distance is 141 km.
Lieutenant-General Eng. / Kamel Al-Wazir, indicated that the modernization of the railway signaling systems on Beni Suef/Asyut line aims to replace the current (mechanical) system with a modern electronic one, which leads to an increase in safety and control factors concerning the safety and security of train running. This will contribute to decreasing the headway period between trains and increasing the capacity of the network by increasing the number of journeys per day, as well as achieving the highest levels of safety and security. He added that the modernization of signaling and communication systems includes monitoring trains traffic moment by moment; providing the level crossings with bells, lights and automatic barriers to reduce accidents and achieve safety for vehicles; besides a system that allows the driver to contact the operation controller from any semaphore in cases of emergency or sudden malfunctions. He pointed out that projects of a length about 1,900 km and at a cost of about 50 billion pounds are underway and planned to modernize signaling systems on railways with so as to increase safety and security rates on railways.
