The Minister of Transport announces that the automatic area between Sidi Gaber and Kafr El Dawar will be entered into service within the project of development of signaling systems on the Cairo-Alexandria line

Based on the directives of the political leadership on the necessity of completing projects of development and modernization of the railway signaling systems to increase the safety and security factors of the lines. The Ministry of Transport announces that the entering of the automatic area between Sidi Gaber and Kafr El Dawar into service will be part of the signaling system development project on Cairo- Alexandria line. 
Based on the directives of the continuous political leadership of the Egyptian government represented by the Ministry of Transport regarding the necessity of completing projects of development and modernization of the railway signaling systems to increase the rates of safety and security, to achieve full control over the movement of trains and reduce dependence on the human element to reduce accidents on railways. The Minister of Transport -  Lieutenant  engineer Kamel EL Wazeer announces that the automatic area between the Sidi Gaber signal tower and Kafr El Dawar tower was entered into service as part of the project of development of signaling systems on the Cairo-Alexandria railway line of 208 km, which is currently being implemented by the Spanish international company Thales, with a modern electronic system (EIS), which achieves the highest rates Safety and SIL4 certified (safety integrity level), the fourth level safety rate (this is the highest safety rate in the world), and upon entering that area into service, the Minister announced that 160 km had been entered into service out of a total of 208 km, as the first phase of Sidi Gaber Tower was entered on 29 December 2020
The Minister explained that the project consists of (19 main towers, 15 secondary towers and 80 level crossings), and so far 12 main service towers have been entered, and they are (Quesna - Berkat Al Sabaa - Kafr El Zayat - Itay Al Baroud - Damanhur - Abu Homs - Tookh - Sandanhour - Kafr The Dawar - Qaha - Qalyoub - Sidi Gaber), 12 secondary towers and 67 level crossings, pointing out that the Sidi Gaber tower controls, 69 optical semaphore, 38 point machines , and 7 level crossings.
Adding that the modernization of the railway signaling systems aims to replace the current (old electrical) system with a modern electronic one, increase the number of trips per day, and achieve the highest levels of safety and security, pointing out that modernizing signaling and communication systems include following up trains moment by moment, and equipping level crossings with bells, lights and automatic gates, to reduce accidents and achieve safety for vehicles, and a system that allows the driver to contact the operation controller from any Semaphore in cases of emergency or sudden breakdowns, adding that the modernization of signaling systems on railways is ongoing with a total length of 1800 km at a cost of 46.8 billion pounds to increase safety and security rates on network lines Railways. The project is scheduled to be completed at the end of December 2021.
