The Egyptian Minister of Transport, Foreign Affairs and Hungarian Trade are considering manufacturing 200 sleeping carriages


Within the framework of the political leadership instructions for the localization of the transport industry in Egypt

The Egyptian Minister of Transport of Egypt and the Hungarian minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade are discussing cooperation in the field of manufacturing 200 new sleeping coaches and participating in the transport projects that are launched in Cairo and Alexandria


H.E. Lieutenant General Engineer \ Kamel El-Wazir - Minister of Transport met with H.E. Mr. Peter Ciarto, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade in the presence of the Chairman of the Egyptian National Railways and the President of the Hungarian Transmach Holding Company, on the sidelines of receiving the first batch of new coaches supplied from Hungary as part of a transaction of  manufacturing and supply 1,300 new railway coaches, It was signed between Egyptian National Railways and the Russian company, Transmash, representing the Russian-Hungarian Alliance, with a value of one billion,16 million and 50 thousand euros, of which 260 coaches have delivered so far.


At the beginning of the meeting, the two sides praised the distinct relations between the two countries which resulted in the coaches’ transaction that is supplied, which is considered the largest one in the history of the Egyptian railways. The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade expressed his appreciation for this transaction which marked a positive sign in the cooperation between the two sides, stressing the commitment of the Hungarian side to the deadlines set for the supply of coaches, inviting H.E. Egyptian Minister of Transport to visit Hungary to attend the shipping works of the first batch of air-conditioned coaches manufactured in Hungary June 2021.


H.E. Mr. Peter Ciarto also expressed the Hungarian companies' aspiration to cooperate with the Egyptian side in localizing the transport industry, as well as in the field of study and training for young students and railway engineers in the field of transportation technology. The Hungarian side also expressed interest in launching fruitful cooperation with the Egyptian side in the field of localizing the railway industry, pointing out the interest in cooperating in the field of manufacturing 200 new sleeping coaches, with the localization of its industry in Egypt through cooperation between the Hungarian companies, the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and the Arab Organization for Industrialization in accordance with the specifications set by the Egyptian National Railways with the provision of the necessary financing for the transaction.


H.E. Lieutenant General Engineer \ Kamel El-Wazir, welcomed the current joint cooperation and the Hungarian side's commitment to the deadlines set for the supply of coaches, especially as work is ongoing in the Ministry of Transport to implement the instructions of the political leadership in the comprehensive development of the railway system.


Non-operation of any outdated trains on the network lines by the end of this year, stressing the importance of increasing the volume of joint projects, whether in the field of sleeping coaches or in other transport projects such as the transport projects in Alexandria Governorate as the two development projects of Abu Qir line and its transforming to a metro, as well as the rehabilitation of the El Ramel tram, especially with the availability of its financing and its great importance to make a qualitative leap in transportation means in Alexandria Governorate.


The H.E. the minister also praised the interest of the Hungarian side in sending Egyptian students to Hungary through educational scholarships in all fields, and the minister pointed out the possibility of sending railway engineers to Hungary for railway technology training, referring to the political leadership has directed to graduate new generations of young engineers that can keep abreast of  the great developments in the transport sector in Egypt, in conjunction with the graduation of new group of specialized technicians from the Technical Institute of Railways Technology of Wardan.
