The Minister of Transport receives the German ambassador in Cairo For cooperation in the field of transportation


The lieutenant general engineer Kamel al-Wazir - Minister of Transport, received Ambassador Cyril Nunn, the German ambassador in Cairo, to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two sides in the various fields of transport. The meeting was attended by the chairman of the railways and the national authority for tunnels and leaders of the Ministry of Transport.

At the beginning of the meeting, the minister emphasized the depth of the Egyptian-German relations and the fruitful cooperation between the two sides in various fields, including the field of transportation, as the most recent aspect of this cooperation was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Transport and Siemens International to implement an integrated system for the high-speed electric train in Egypt, with the immediate start of implementation The line that will connect El-Ain El-Sokhna to New Alamein City.

The German ambassador in Cairo expressed the German companies ’interest in strengthening cooperation with the Egyptian side in the maritime transport sector, especially since a memorandum of understanding was signed between the (German Eurogate and Concertep Italia) alliance to manage, operate and maintain the second container terminal in Damietta Port) and the Minister of Transport confirmed that there are directives from the political leadership to develop The maritime transport system to support the national economy and cooperate with major international companies specialized in this field, thus contributing to the development of this system.

The German ambassador in Cairo praised the major projects that the Egyptian state is doing under the leadership of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, noting that Egypt's trend towards developing the infrastructure in various fields, especially the transport and railways sector, after the completion of the development of the electric power network is the same direction that the developed countries have taken.

The two sides discussed cooperation in the field of establishing a control center for the railway network (diesel and electricity) that will be implemented, as well as cooperation to establish a training, rehabilitation and maintenance center for the railway system, during which Egyptian engineers and technicians are trained on the latest railway technology and express trains, by German experts specialized in this field, the latest developments in cooperation with the German company Hernenkensht in the field of training 160 Egyptian engineers and workers on tunnel drilling machines were also discussed in order to qualify them to enable them to work in the Egyptian and German markets.

The German ambassador also expressed the desire of the two German companies (DB Shanker - DHL) to cooperate with the Egyptian side in the field of transporting goods and establishing logistical areas. and the minister emphasized the interest of the Egyptian government, represented by the Ministry of Transport, to maximize the system of transporting goods via railways, as a comprehensive plan is being implemented to achieve this system, as well as implementing a plan to establish several dry ports and logistical areas to serve the commercial community and maintain the road network by transporting goods to and from these ports through the railway network, pointing out that consideration was given to the availability of these ports and regions in both the upper Egypt and lower Egypt in locations that were selected according to scientific foundations.

The minister also indicated that in the field of linking projects between Egypt and the neighboring countries, there are huge new projects in the field of railway and land connection with neighboring countries that could constitute a fruitful model for cooperation between the two sides. In the field of land connection with neighboring countries, there is the Cairo Cape Town Road, which passes through 9 African countries with a length of 10228 km, including 1155 km inside the Egyptian territories are being developed, as well as the road planned to be established between Egypt and Chad, and in the field of the railway connection, there is a plan to establish the Aswan / Toshka / Wadi Halfa line to connect with Sudan, and the Alexandria / Salloum / Benghazi line to connect with Libya, as well as El-Fardan / El-Arish / Rafah / Taba line project. The Minister also indicated that all Egyptian ports are being developed on the Mediterranean to connect with North and West African countries, and Egyptian ports on the Red Sea are being developed to connect with East African countries.
