The Minister of Transport announces that the Sidi Gaber signal tower has entered service within the project of developing signaling systems on the Cairo-Alexandria railway line

According to the directives of the political leadership, the necessity of completing projects to develop and modernize the railway signaling systems to increase the safety and security factors of the lines - Minister of Transport: Sidi Gaber Signal Tower entered into service within the project to develop signaling systems on the Cairo-Alexandria line.

Based on the continuous directives of the political leadership of the Egyptian government represented by the Ministry of Transport regarding the necessity of completing projects to develop and modernize railway signaling systems to increase the rates of safety and security, to achieve full control over the movement of trains, to reduce dependence on the human factor, to reduce accidents on railways, the Lieutenant/ Kamel El Wazeer - Minister of Transport declared that  Sidi Gaber Signal Tower has entered into service as part of the project to develop signal systems on the Cairo-Alexandria railway line with length of 208 km, which is currently being implemented by the Spanish international company Thales, with a modern electronic system (EIS) that achieves the highest safety rates and has a SIL4 certificate

 Safety integrity level

The fourth level safety rate (this is the highest safety rate in the world).

The minister explained that the project consists of (19 main towers, 15 secondary towers and 80 level crossing), and so far 12 main towers have been entered into service, and they are (Quesna - Berkat al-Sabaa - Kafr al-Zayat - Itay al-Baroud - Damanhur - Abu Homs - Tookh - Sandanhur – Kafr El Dawaar - Qaha - Qalyoub - Sidi Gaber) and 10 secondary towers and 58 Level Crossings, pointing out that the Sidi Gaber tower controls 15 signal and 14 turnouts.

Adding that the modernization of the railway signaling systems aims to replace the current (old electrical) system with a modern electronic one, increase the number of trips per day, and achieve the highest levels of safety and security. The modernizing signaling and communication systems includes following up trains moment by moment, and equipping level crossings with bells, lights and automatic gates to reduce accidents and achieve safety for vehicles, and a system that allows the driver to contact the operator from any Semaphore in cases of emergency or sudden failures. The projects are ongoing and planned to update signaling systems on railway lines with a total length of 1800 km at a cost of 46.8 billion pounds to increase safety and security rates on network lines Railways.
